Can I mount a 235/75/15 tire on a 15 x 5.5w rim, safely?

I would like to buy a new set of tires for my Samurai, and the stock wheels are 15x5.5, I was looking for a new set of 15x7 wheels and just go ahead and mount the tires on them, but was wondering if anyone has mounted a 235 or larger tire on a 5.5 wheel. Maybe a stupid Q but have to ask. Also best place to get inexpensive wheels for a sammy. Thanks
